BIOGRAPHY
Nevardo Dean, professionally known as Perro Grande, is a Bahamian composer, record producer, sound designer, and music business consultant. Perro is renowned for his unique ability to blend symphony orchestra arrangements with various musical genres.
Perro earned his moniker while studying architecture in Cuba. Perro Grande, which is Spanish for “big dog”, was inspired by a comparison between big dogs and small dogs. Small dogs often bark the loudest, but in most cases hold no physical threat, while a big dog are decisive and powerful when they need to act. This analogy perfectly encapsulates Perro’s approach to music: prefers to let his work speak for itself.
His educational journey continued in Canada, where he was immersed in a comprehensive four-year music industry boot camp. This experience equipped him with a profound understanding the business of music, shaping him into a versatile industry professional.
A transformative moment in his career came when he was tasked to create an arrangement for a United Nations youth ambassador campaign. Initially working with digital strings, he was encouraged to adopt live strings, leading him to Toronto where he learned from the president of a leading symphony orchestra. This marked the beginning of his deep engagement with orchestral scoring, and once he experienced the emotional resonance of live orchestral performances, he never reverted to digital strings.
Perro has also ventured into music business consultation, serving as a guest lecturer at various universities and corporate events. His expertise in the business aspects of music has made him a sought-after speaker and advisor.
In response to the devastating hurricane that struck the Bahamas in 2019, Perro was moved to give back to his community. He orchestrated “One World,” a modern Bahamian anthem, by integrating a symphony orchestra with 25 of the nation’s most talented vocalists from diverse genres. This initiative not only provided relief but also marked the beginning of a significant transformation in the Bahamian music industry.
Currently, Perro is dedicated to nurturing young talent in the Bahamas, teaching them about music copyright and monetization strategies. His overarching goal is to establish a sustainable, modern music industry infrastructure that will foster successful entrepreneurs in the Bahamas and across the Caribbean. His vision for Perro Grande Music is to transform it into a developmental and creative economic hub for the region’s music and entertainment industry, ensuring a legacy of innovation and excellence.
